I have always enjoyed art, particularly painting, loving the way artists take you on a journey with seemingly random yet carefully considered marks throughout a piece. The creating of a painting is as personal and unique as the response to it. It’s one of the reasons why I love it so much. For me it is so joyous to feel connected to the marks I make on the canvas; they are meaningful to me yet can be meaningful to the viewer in different ways. There is no right or wrong when it comes to a connection with a painting.
I work in acrylics and enjoy both landscape and abstract work. Inspired mostly by my local landscape I use strong colour pallets to give vibrancy to my paintings, usually working in multiple layers to give a richness and depth to a piece. The creative process can provide many challenges and often I like to work intuitively - to listen and respond to those challenges. That is why my work is always evolving, as it captures a moment in time of not just what I see but also what I feel.
Painting has been a long time passion, over the years a teaching career and a growing family made it more challenging to get any momentum going. Now the time is right for me to focus more on my creative path. I have become involved in my local community art group and love the connection this gives me with amazing talented artists. It has also been a great platform to exhibit and sell my works.
